Youth against Fascism is very much a non-descriptive title of this site as Illmo is one of the biggest musical fascists in the world. Youth Against Fascism is actually Illmo's favourite track from his first ever album bought, Sonic Youth's Dirty record released in 1992, as a seven year old from money he won after Subzero won the Melbourne Cup in 1992.

Hi, I'm back on a new blog, because I can't remember my password for the old one.
Anyway last night was the concert that I have been jibbering shit about for months, INTERPOL. Yes that bunch of moody New York rockers who sound alot like Joy Division, in little old Adelaide. Those of you who know me will know I've been a big Interpol fan since the release of Turn Off The Bright Lights in late 2002, those of you who didn't know me then will know it now, I guess.
Now the one downside to this concert in my mind before hand was the fact it was at Heaven, a venue I've always related to Ethnic heroes, gangs, ecstasy pills and fat and/or skanky hos. But I have got to admit the setup at Heaven is actually really good for a live venue, great acoustics and lots of viewing room, particularly if you are a short ass. In many ways the setup at Heaven was very similar to The OC's The Bait Shop.
The great man, Hubs, and I arrived at Heaven at around 8:30 and didn't get inside until 9, the entrance at Heaven is rather inefficent I must say, mainly because they make you walk through a metal detector. To anyone working at Heaven, here's some advice, indie kids don't tend to carry knives, thats thugs who listen to gangster rap.
Alot of waiting around occurred, with the support act, Snowman, not appearin until 9:45. Snowman for anyone who doesn't know are that band who have the song which got alot of airplay on the J's a few months back, which had a 50's surf guitar & alot of screaming. The main lyrics were "Fucking animals." There set was very much all the same, 50's surf guitar and screaming. Kinda like the soundtrack to a B-grade 50's horror film, as the music was horrific and B-grade. When their set finally was over I was rather pleased.
More waiting around took place until Interpol arrived on stage, dressed snappy in their suits and ties, to rousing applause. Kicking off their set with slow burner, Next Exit, the opening track on Antics, and then going into their huge (in an indie sense) single, Slow Hands, the crowd was very recptive. Other highlights from the set included Narc, Stella Was A Diver and She Was Always Down, Say Hello To The Angels and their other huge single from the Antics record, Evil. The set was closed with PDA, a song I absolutley love, and Interpol were applauded as they left the stage. An encore followed in which they played Obstacle 2 and Roland, which went down a treat. Interpol then left the stage, the bight lights came on and people left Heaven. The only dissapointment for me with Interpol's set was the omission of Obstacle 1, my first ever taste of the band which would become one of my faves. But apart from that they played an incredibly tight set in a surprisingly, good live venue. So I say, Interpol, good on ya. You were tops. To Snowman you weren't.
